Frequently asked questions about Certificates that Replace the Family Book
We answer the most common questions before you request this procedure.
Can the family book still be requested?
No. Since Law 20/2011 on the Civil Registry came into force, the family book is no longer issued or duplicated. Its purpose is now served by Civil Registry certificates (marriage and the children’s births), which are what we handle.
Which documents does this service include?
Filing of the literal marriage certificate and the birth certificates of the children you indicate, which together replace the old family book.
How long does it take?
The estimated timeframe is 3 to 10 working days (depending on the civil registry), depending on the competent Civil Registry.
Can I request the certificates myself?
Yes. You can apply directly at the Civil Registry. We handle the request if you prefer not to do it yourself.
Are you the Civil Registry?
No. We are a private service. The certificates are issued by the Civil Registry; we submit the application.
